PLOVER YMCA - A PART OF THE STEVENS POINT AREA YMCA
We are excited to announce the Plover YMCA, a new facility created to serve Plover and surrounding areas. This satellite branch of the Stevens Point Area YMCA will bring Y programs, services, and community connections closer to families in Portage County, while still being part of the strong, established Stevens Point Area YMCA association.
This YMCA will be located at 1780 Plover Road, Plover, WI (the old Younkers building) and will be an integral part of our overall YMCA association. We expect it to open around March 1st in 2026.
With our growth, our mission remains the same: to put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind, and body for all. By expanding into Plover, we are creating more opportunities for youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility right where people live, work, and play.
Plover memberships can be signed up for now. It currently is set to no charge and we will begin drafting membership fees once Plover opens. Until then, those signing up for Plover will be able to access the Stevens Point Area YMCA at no charge, and with no joiner fee!
MEMBERSHIP & ACCESS
Yes! Your membership gives you full access to both facilities, plus nationwide YMCA reciprocity at all participating YMCAs.
Plover users will be required to obtain the 24/7 access add-on option. Due to different staffing hours in Plover, this will be required to ensure access to the facility at all times.
No. Your current membership covers both facilities, including your 24/7 access.
Reminder, to use Plover, you will need to have the 24/7 access add-on.
No. Membership rates will remain at the then published levels.
Adding the Plover YMCA facility simply increases the value of membership by providing access to multiple facilities and programs.
Yes! You can work out in Plover in the morning and swim in the pool in Stevens Point later that day.
No. The Plover facility will have fewer staffed hours.
Staffed hours in Plover are expected to grow as membership builds and programming grows.
This is the reason why we will require Plover users to have 24/7 access.
As mentioned, 24/7 access will be required as an add-on to the Plover memberships. Because of limited staffing hours, all Plover users will be required to obtain this small fee add-on.
The 24/7 access will then work for both YMCAs using the same key fob.
PROGRAMS & SERVICES
On the initial launch, we will see the Plover YMCA being open for pickleball, walking, and wellness center use.
As we build, we expect to begin to offer programs within the available space.
The Plover YMCA will not have a pool or drop-in child care upon opening.
There will be 4 pickleball courts, a wellness center, walking track, and small section of turf available for use.
FUNDING & SUSTAINABILITY
The upfront build out for Plover was a fairly low cost launch.
We are seeking charitable support through donations to offset these initial costs. If you are interested in donating, please reach out to Ryan Zietlow, CEO at rzietlow@spymca.org. There are donor recognition opportunities available.
The Plover YMCA strengthens the entire association by expanding reach and sharing resources.
Growing together creates economies of scale, making operations more sustainable and impactful.
It means both branches share the same mission, leadership, systems, and support.
This structure reduces costs and makes operations more sustainable, while still giving each branch its own community identity.
SUPPORT & COMMUNITY
Yes! Our commitment to never turn anyone away due to financial need applies at both branches.
Yes! Every membership supports the YMCA's mission in both Stevens Point and Plover, helping us grow stronger together.
