The Stevens Point Area YMCA was dealt a substantial blow the weekend of July 19 when devastating storms swept through Peters Family YMCA Camp Glacier Hollow in Amherst Junction. For the safety of all campers and staff, YMCA Camp Glacier Hollow has been moved to YMCA Camp Alexander in Wisconsin Rapids.

1053 Camp Road
Wisconsin Rapids, WI, 54494

Staff has been working tirelessly with tree removal and insurance professionals, contractors, DNR and others to sift through the damage and evaluate what the rest of our summer will look like for the 100’s of resident and day campers who attend programs. The Stevens Point Area YMCA extends a huge thank you to the South Wood County YMCA, Bret Salscheider, CEO, and their YMCA staff for providing the opportunity for YMCA Camp Glacier Hollow to continue the remainder of our 2019 summer programs with minimal interruption for the parents who need summer care.

The extent of the damage this storm has had on camp is significant and unfortunately, is not fully covered by insurance, specifically relating to tree removal. The Stevens Point Area YMCA is reaching out to our community for help. Every contribution helps!

To donate to the Camp Storm Relief efforts, CLICK HERE TO DONATE NOW and select “Camp Storm Relief” in the drop down. Cash, check and credit cards can also be handled at the Member Services desk or by mail to: 1000 Division Street, Stevens Point, WI 54481 c/o Camp Storm Relief. The funds will go directly to restoration efforts including machine rentals, equipment replacement; program supplies (challenge course, archery), construction costs, logging costs, and supplies.

The Y will eventually need volunteers to help clean up debris, clean buildings, etc. A sign up to volunteer for a day, or a few days, will be made available once we have an organized and safe plan for volunteers to assist.

To keep up with the latest progress, check on volunteer opportunities or for more information, please follow the Stevens Point Area YMCA on Facebook or return to this page.
