Racquetball was quite the rage during 1970s and into the 1980s, when the fitness movement first gained traction and momentum. In the 1970s and 80s, racquetball was on the fastest growing sports in the United States among men and women. The Women’s Professional Racquetball Association was founded in 1980. In 1981, the United States hosted the first Racquetball World Championship. The Stevens Point area and the YMCA were not immune to racquetball fervor, where the games intense indoor workout was perfect for the long, winter months of central Wisconsin.
