Thanks to the thoughtfulness and generosity of Len Dudas Motors and Mary and Bob Berard, the Stevens Point Area YMCA has a new van to transport food to the YMCA’s Early Education program.

As the YMCA’s Early Education program expanded over the past several years, it became increasing difficult for the Y to prepare the meals necessary for the program. The YMCAs kitchen was inadequate to keep up with the program’s growth. As a result, the Y began to research companies in our community that could prepare meals for the program. After meeting with several area vendors, the YMCA chose to partner with the University of Wisconsin – Stevens Point. The University not only had the ability to meet the YMCA’s needs, their emphasis on nutritious foods and the use of fresh produced aligned perfectly with the YMCA focus on Healthy Living. Today, over 100 kids per day are fed breakfast and lunch by the YMCA through this new partnership.

“Unfortunately, our van that was used to transport the food broke down just a few months into the new agreement and this left us in a very difficult position,” said Dave Morgan, YMCA CEO. “But once again, our area partners stepped up to the challenge. We are so thankful to the Berards and Mike Dudas for helping us out. Their generosity is amazing.”

The van will be a vital resource to the YMCA, allowing our participation in community partnerships, facilitating better nutrition to our youth, in our continued efforts to bring the best possible experiences and outcomes to the children and families in our care.
