Community Partnerships
We know that when like-minded individuals and organizations work as one, we move people and communities forward. That’s why the Stevens Point Area YMCA is committed to working with a wide variety of community partners to provide support to our neighbors and opportunities for kids, adults and families. Together we are making sure that the entire community – including every child and family – has what they need to achieve their best.
Here are some of our key community partnerships:
Boys & Girls Club of Portage County
Each year, we work with the Boys & Girls Club on some major projects, including the community Santa Party at SentryWorld, and the joint fundraiser event Passport to Paradise.
Lance Armstrong Foundation – LiveStrong
Often times after cancer treatment, patients are very fragile and do not have the necessary energy to just get through the day, let alone think about exercise. But research has shown that by participating in moderate levels of physical activity, fatigue is reduced and physical strength improved for the cancer patient. The Y has been selected to partner with the Lance Armstrong Foundation to bring a program to Portage County that will help cancer survivors regain their strength.
We want to be there for them to assist through this difficult time. To help them begin to lead a normal and healthy life again.
For more information on this pilot program please contact Joe Seubert at LiveStrong@spymca.org
Ministry Health Care
We partner with Ministry Health Care to bring the community several critical programs and services, including the Transition Program From Physical Therapy to the YMCA, Medical Referral Program, Free Injury Assessment, Excel Performance Training, and drop-in childcare at St. Michaels’s Hospital/Ministry Health Care.
Portage County Health & Human Services
We partner with Portage County Health & Services to make it easier for families to attend meetings and receive services by providing free drop-in child care at the department’s Ruth Gilfrey office building.
Stevens Point Area School District
We both serve children, so it is only fitting that the Stevens Point School District and the Y pool our resources and talents to better serve our community. In addition to hosting early childhood education and 4K classes for the district, the Y also provides before and after school child care at 8 elementary schools, and provides physical education classes for the district’s alternative high school students.
United Way of Portage County
A longtime friend and supporter of the Y, the United Way provides critical funding that allows us – among other things – to bring teen and adapted recreation programs to our community.
University of Wisconsin – Stevens Point
We collaborate with the UWSP to bring the community Tai Chi and Tae Kwon Do programs.
